A face-to-face coaching session is the traditional way to mentoring.
These days, however, video-conferencing and other web technology is taking over and this can be very effective even in a coaching/mentoring situation.
One of the differences between face-to-face and internet meetings is the lasting effect.
In a face-to-face coaching, the client may have unconcsious barriers and can repress and/or dismiss certain revelations. There is always a series of revelations in a good coaching session. You ask yourself You will come to certain conclusions about yourself and your own situations. You are basically advising yourself: the answers come naturally and it’s up to you to make note of them and resolve to take action.
In a distance-session, the coach is in another place, physically removed from the setting. This allows you to consider the revelation freely, without someone “breathing down your neck” yet it gives you the sense of urge: you invariably ask yourself at this point:
“Do I want to use this experience to it’s full potential (accept my own advice)?” or “not”.
If the answer is YES, then you have your emotional “buy-in”. The impact is more intense.
You’ll remember it more and you’ll be more inclined to work more seriously on your action plan.
And that is the key to getting what you want.
What does a video session look like?
All you need is Skype, a webcam and microphone. Via Skype, we make a video call and let the internet take care of the technology. We can see, hear and experience each other, and learn.
How long is a video session and how many times do I need it?
The standard video session is 2 hours. We can, if you prefer, break it up into two 1-hour sessions.
You will only need one session, if you answer the questions honestly and resolve to take action and then TAKE THAT ACTION. A second session is possible, in order to increase feedback and tweak behaviors.
That is all you need to effect the changes you discover.
I remain forever available by email and will reply to all incidental questions and comments.
