Until a few weeks ago, I had been conducting a course preparing cadet pilots for the world of aviation. Under contract from STATA, one of the world’s largest aviation training institutes, I spent 3 months in Nanjing. Here is a snippet from my diary:

“Every morning I maneuver my electric scooter through traffic for a 20-minute death ride. By the time I get to campus, my adrenaline is pumped in anticipation for the day ahead. The training is different every day; it is this variety and student motivation that keep the job interesting. If I have enough energy after work, I head into town, straight to my favorite coffee place, for my evening dose. Oh, and I have my map, compass, knife and dictionary with me at all times!”
